Nepal encourages local industry partly through the customs system, by granting duty concessions to approved producers. Manufacturing units under industrial incentives can import machinery, spare parts and raw materials at reduced duty, in some cases free of the standard charge where pivotal to the approved activity. The concession is conditional and audited. Eligibility requires the qualifying industrial registration, import genuinely for the approved purpose, and use matching the declared intention within the required period. Machinery imported concessional and later moved or sold triggers recovery of the duty that was foregone, so the paper trail across the whole life of the asset must remain intact. The planning value lies in structuring the import before shipment. A unit that knows its entitlement saves duty on every item its cargo carries. Firms that lose ground discover the concession after clearing, when the base is fixed and the chance has passed. Preparation in the import planning session costs nothing and converts the incentive into an operating advantage for the manufactured product.
